Sugar Skull Workshop

 Join Roots & Roads as we continue to prepare for Dia de los Muertos with a workshop on the tradition of sugar skulls. Antonio C. Estrada and Gloria J. Valenzuela will lead this guided workshop as participants learn about the importance of calaveras for Day of the Dead and decorate sugar skulls for our home ofrendas.

Facilitators

Antonio C. (Tony) Estrada is recently retired as the Older Americans Act Program Director for Pima Council on Aging and has over 30 years of experience in Health Care and Social Services.

Gloria J. Valenzuela is a Program Coordinator and Navigator with Pima County EELS program. Gloria’s background includes work in the Health and Behavioral Health fields. She spent twenty years working in education.

Tony is an accomplished Chicano artist whose work includes painting, sculpture and mural work. For many years, Tony and his wife Gloria have been creating Dia de los Muertos Altares (Altars/Ofrendas) and telling the stories behind them. Together, they will be offering workshops for the Roots & Roads Community Hospice Foundation, in the design and creation of mini ofrendas and in the tradition of making sugar skulls.
