“As a kid, one of my favorite activities was drawing. Forget a gaming system or electronic tablet, all I needed to be content was a box of 64 Crayola crayons (with the built-in sharpener in the back) and some blank paper.

I don’t know exactly what age I “outgrew” this pastime. My guess is that I began to think of coloring as something that only little kids did for fun. Even though art classes were offered in high school and college, it felt like they were geared toward students with real talent. I figured I was better off focusing on classes like math and economics rather than anything frivolous like drawing or music.

But it turns out that there is a lot to be gained from pursuing artistic endeavors even if you aren’t gifted . . .”
